Ceramides are a complex family of compounds linked with different fatty acids, crucial for the skin's water permeability barrier function. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the skin's structure and water permeability. Skin disorders with diminished barrier function often decrease ceramide content, but ceramide supplementation and formulations with skin-like lipids could improve these conditions.
